#189 closed enhancement (fixed)

Naive user needs table of contents or index for Install Readme

Reported by: arch_o_median Owned by: arch_o_median
Priority: minor Milestone: eventually
Component: packaging Version: 0.6.1
Keywords: Cc:
Launchpad Bug:

Description

A confusion generator in the install readme is that the reader must scan through all of the options ve is not interested in e.g. other systems, binary vs. source etc. How about an index at the beginning. Then the installee simply selects the link that goes to their preferred style (binaries, source, etc.) architecture/or OS. It seems reasonable that the installee will know e.g. what OS they are installing on.

  • Component changed from website to packaging
  • Milestone changed from undecided to 0.6.2
  • Owner changed from somebody to arch_o_median

This sounds like a good improvement. Will you add such an index or shall I?

arch: now would be a fine time to submit a patch to the README that adds an index.

Later would also work.

  • Milestone changed from 0.7.1 to undecided

This text now lives in docs/install-details.html, and it still needs some good lovin'.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

The existence of the new elegant "How to Install Tahoe": http://allmydata.org/source/tahoe/trunk/docs/install.html makes the need for this obsolete.
