 Fixed in a clean way by [20090613160112-92b7f-
 f5e70a58d4ad983c7336a22b54c84f5b319d8f12].  Thanks, Black Dew!  Opened
 http://bugs.python.org/issue6280 to complain about the fact that the
 function we were wishing for was always there in the Python Standard
 Library, but just in the wrong module.
